iPoint2: Stay pointing in the right direction!

Disclaimer: I did design this app, so am very biased :)

However, it IS cool.

iPoint2 is super simple, all it does is allow you to plot locations, and then, wherever you are, it will point to any of your saved locations and tell you the direction and distance you need to go to get there. We kept the interface suitably simple so it doesn’t get in the way of quickly adding points or viewing one. The only extra cool thing we added, was the ability for you to take a picture or upload one of each place, which the compass overlays. This personalises each of your places and can provide a visual reference for those of us who like that sort of thing :)

BUT what’s cool is how you can use it.

One of the initial thoughts is for all those praying to Mecca – it’s a very simple way of always knowing which direction to face. Or your favorite fishing spot, where your car is parked, where your best friend lives on the other side of the world…

What’s even cooler, is that as people have started to use it, they have come up with their own benefits. As this AppShopper review writes:

“Say you’re vacationing in an exotic location and want to head back to your hotel but also meander around a little on the way to see the sights. Or you’re exploring a large park and want to keep track of where you are in relation to the park’s entrance. iPoint2 is perfect for these types of situations and many others.”

I love it and highly recommend spending $1.99 and getting yourself pointing in the right direction.

For anyone who’s interested in their own mobile app, iPoint2 was developed by the geniuses at Able Technology

  1. Nat, this is awesome! I’ve wanted something like this for so long! I often find if I’m out and a about I come across a location that I think would be a great photoshoot location that I should remember, and this would be perfect for this! Especially because of the ability to record a photo of it too. You are a genius. And i feel a little proud that this was developed by not only a kiwi, but also a friend of a friend (I’m friends with Amy H). Any chance you a developing an Android version???

  2. Hi Abby,

To clarify, Im just the designer! The idea is entirely nothing to do with me, and it was developed by Able Tech – all of whom are in NZ! (Id hate to get the credit for something that was someone else’s genius :) )

Im actually not sure what Jehan’s plans are. Obviously world domination, but Im not sure if it’s just the Apple world or the entire world. I’ll let him know you are after one :)

I also love how you have found yet another use! I really, really like it, and think it’s super useful :)

  3. Hi Abby,

I had planned to offer a Android version of iPoint2 when the iPhone version gained some traction in the market place.

However given you and other people have asked about an Android version I will reassess this decision. I will meet with the tech guys at Able Tech next week to see how we can progress.

I too am glad your finding applications for this.

    Best regards

    Jehan

  4. I did sort of think iPhone were overrated, but every time I mention that I might get an Android phone next, Im told they just aren’t as good. So yes, France, get on the bandwagon!
